Frank & Friends Show 0065

Frank Murphy’s friend Becca James is today’s co-host. Frank and Becca emceed the Karns Fairest of the Fair Pageant on Saturday. The pageant winners will appear at the Karns Community Fair this Saturday, July 16. They can also go on to compete at the Tennessee Valley Fair.
Becca is still asked to emcee events even though she is no longer on the radio. Frank points out that there are more emcee gigs than there are local deejays now that so many stations run syndicated shows or use voice-tracked deejays from other cities.
Frank loves the movie Drop Dead Gorgeous, which satirizes beauty pageants. The film is hard to find because of its politically incorrect humor. He thought it would be fun to emcee a pageant.
Frank learned that emceeing a pageant can be challenging because the contestant descriptions are often written in first person and must be transposed to third person. The Karns pageant has gotten better organized each year. It also goes more smoothly with a competent co-host.
Becca complimented the tuxedo Frank wore. He thanked Robin at Prestige Tuxedo for selecting the blue jacket with a black shawl collar that he wore. Robin also put Frank in a black vest to blend with the jacket.
On the day before the pageant, Frank went to pick up his suit at Prestige Tuxedo. They were holding a huge estate sale in the warehouse. The woman running the sale said her father had passed away. Frank later realized that the woman’s brother is Eddie Mannis, owner of Prestige Cleaners and Prestige Tuxedo.
Frank bought ten shirts at the estate sale, including the yellow Brooks Brothers shirt he is wearing on today’s episode. The shirts he bought ranged in price from $2 to $5. He spent $28 for ten shirts.
At the Karns pageant, Becca wore the same dress she wore when she won Dancing with the Knoxville Stars. Becca got the highest dance score and Kristin Farley won the fundraising competition. They both scored higher than Morgan Wallen and Glenn “Kane” Jacobs who also competed that year.
Frank’s grandkids went to a big costume party during the Independence Day parade in Saugerties, New York. They have a deejay and announcers doing unofficial commentary on the parade. Frazier Smith used to do snarky Rose Parade commentary on the radio in Los Angeles while the parade was on television.
Guests at the parade costume party were told to dress as a character with their same first initial. Charlie Rocket wanted to be a Charizard Robot. He wore a gray shirt, gray shorts, and gray socks over his regular clothes.
Becca’s twin boys are three and a half. They were playing in the front yard when one pulled down his pants and peed as a car drove by. Becca said to her husband, “Where were you? We were in man-to-man coverage!”
If Frank’s grandsons have to go to the bathroom urgently while in the pool, they will jump out and go in the grass behind the fence. When they were at a park in Virginia, Frank had to help one find a secluded spot to pee.
Over the July 4th weekend, Frank’s neighbors shot off a lot of fireworks. Frank heard the retorts and got up from the couch to look but missed the display. It was too humid to wait outside for the next round, so he returned to the couch only to jump up again when he heard fireworks. He missed the fireworks again and again two or three more times.
