Frank is wearing an orange shirt that he bought when he first moved to Knoxville. Kathryn points out that it’s the wrong shade of orange. Frank said that’s the reason he hasn’t worn the shirt in many years. When he bought it, he didn’t know that Tennessee orange is “PMS 151.”
Kathryn asks Frank about his wedding ring. He said it sometimes feels too tight. He was wearing it on his pinky when it slipped off and into a toilet. After that, he started putting the wedding ring on his keyring so he wouldn't lose it.
Kathryn’s husband put his wedding ring in his pocket and then couldn’t find it. He discovered a hole in his pocket and bought himself a new ring. Kathryn was straightening up the house and found the original ring on the coffee table.
Marble City Opera will produce the stage premiere of The Copper Queen on June 2, 3, and 4. Kathryn plays the role of Julia Lowell, a ghost who haunts the Copper Queen hotel. Tickets are on sale at https://www.marblecityopera.com/tickets
A work crew put a dumpster in Frank’s driveway. It stayed there for a few days. On the night before they left town, Frank’s wife Jere asked him to put some broken furniture into the dumpster. The furniture had collected mildew in a damp part of the basement. Frank found some things he wanted to keep in a small chest of drawers, including a Donny Osmond cassette and a Kevin & Bean coffee mug.
Frank and Jere got mildew on their clothes when they carried the chest and a broken computer desk out to the dumpster. They put their clothes into the washing machine and ran the load. The next day, as they were driving to Northern Virginia, Frank remembered that they hadn’t put the clothes in the dryer. They rewashed the clothes when they got home.
Kathryn found a small Easter decoration in the driveway. It must have fallen out of the dumpster when the company finally removed it.

Frank shows Kathryn the East Tennessee PBS member guide. Frank’s interview with comedian Leanne Morgan will air at midnight on May 25. Frank is wondering about what to wear when he and Kathryn record some pledge breaks at East Tennessee PBS. They will be seen during the broadcast of a Brit Floyd - The Pink Floyd Tribute show.
When they were in Virginia, Frank’s wife Jere said she wanted to go back to the hotel to take a hot shower. Frank said, “Yeah, you should.” When one of the kids was fussing about something, Frank said, “What’s his problem?”
Frank said those dumb things because he turned off his filter around family members. Kathryn promises to mention it on the show when Frank says something dumb to her.
Kathryn’s parents have received offers for their house. They floated the idea of moving to the country. Kathryn said they shouldn’t move far away from their regular doctors and other services. Some of Frank’s neighbors asked if he was planning to move because of the home improvements he and Jere are having done.
Frank’s wife said he looked like Santa while he was wearing his red Frank & Friends Show hoodie. They stopped at a Cracker Barrel in Virginia and saw a baby wearing only a diaper and sitting on the table where his mother was eating. The child’s clothes were on the floor of the restaurant.
Frank’s wife likes to buy dresses for their granddaughter at Cracker Barrel. A lot of people in a Pigeon Forge Facebook group posted pictures of their daughters and granddaughters wearing Southern Belle style dresses from Lid'l Dolly’s Factory Store. Kathryn had similar dresses that were handmade by her mother.
Kathryn’s family would wear matching outfits for family photos. Frank’s sister’s family also poses for photos in matching outfits. When Frank was a teenager, he was unhappy with his looks during a family photo and walked home from the photo shoot.

Kathryn Frady tells Frank Murphy that she sent her mother a hair clip made from a water buffalo horn for Mother’s Day. Kathryn bought a bracelet and earrings for herself. Frank’s wife Jere and their daughter Meaghan went to get pedicures together on Mother’s Day.
Frank and Jere had traveled to Virginia for Artie Rocket’s First Holy Communion. They offered to have Artie stay in their hotel room so that Jere could make sure he got to the church early.
In the morning, they discovered that the shower and the phone in the hotel room did not work. The front desk clerk gave them a key for a room with a working shower. They still arrived at the church 20 minutes early.
After Mass, they picked up chicken nuggets for an after-party in a local park. It was a cold and rainy day. Another family member provided a cake with mango filling and the words “God Bless Artie” written in red gel on top. The rain gave the letters an eerie appearance.
Kathryn and her assistant Kayla were loading props into Flying Anvil Theatre during a heavy rainstorm. Frank saw a news story about the relatively few natural disasters in East Tennessee and that many people are moving to the area.
When Kathryn was in Florida, she saw several alligators. One was under the footbridge where she was walking her small dog, which would be a bite-sized treat for an alligator. She also saw racoons and snakes.

Frank Murphy had four guest co-hosts while Kathryn Frady was in Florida. She binge-listened to those eight episodes while driving home. Kathryn points out that all the guest co-hosts had something in common.
Tim Coleman expressed interest in filling in the next time Kathryn is out of town. Frank also heard from two professional photographer friends who want to fill in. Guest co-host Sarah Roberto sent some Crumbl Cookies to Frank and his wife Jere.
Frank saw a post in a Gatlinburg Facebook group by someone asking where they could find bone fires in the Fall. Frank was tempted to suggest his friend Helen’s crematorium. He also saw a post asking if hunting was allowed in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Frank is mentioned in chapter 8 of the new Missy Barrett book, The Case of the Thoughtful Thief by Elyse Bruce. He read his chapter aloud at the King Family Library in Sevierville. Elyse added a paragraph about Frank reading the book at the library.
Frank thinks Missy Barrett should explore the world of opera with Kathryn. Marble City Opera will produce the stage premiere of The Copper Queen on June 2, 3, and 4. Kathryn plays the role of Julia Lowell, a ghost who haunts the Copper Queen hotel. Tickets are on sale at https://www.marblecityopera.com/tickets
Frank went to a poker night with a group of successful professionals. He lost $20 fairly quickly. A week later, he saw one of the guys who won most of Frank’s money. The other man said that the party host actually gave all the poker money to charity.
Frank made an effort to memorize the names of the men at the poker night. Kathryn did the same thing when she met the chorus members for the show she directed at Gulfshore Opera.

Frank is happy that Kathryn Frady is back from Florida. She was gone for a month to direct a production of Tosca for Gulfshore Opera. She stayed with her aunt-in-law in Bonita Springs. Kathryn had to wrangle a children’s choir from Punta Gorda.
Kathryn got to sing Tosca’s part during one of the orchestra rehearsals while the set was still being assembled behind her. She said it gave extra meaning to the “Vissi d'arte” (I lived for art) aria.
Kathryn got back in time to sing at the Rossini Festival on Saturday. She was listed as a solo artist but had other Marble City Opera singers join her. Kathryn said she almost invited Frank to join them even though he can’t sing.
Kathryn said someone at the festival told her she heard Frank mention that Kathryn would be singing. Frank admits that he plugged the festival in a manner that it might have sounded like Kathryn was the headliner.
Frank was planting more fig trees on Saturday afternoon. That evening he and his wife Jere attended an ‘80s themed fundraiser party. Their costumes weren’t as outrageous as everyone else’s.
Frank gives Kathryn a “tree cookie” from a maple tree that was in his front yard. Steve’s Tree Service removed two maples and three redbuds.
On the way home from Florida, Kathryn stopped at a truck stop in Georgia called Magnolia Plantation. She took a picture of some ceramic tortoises on the shelf. She bought a jar of fig preserves for Frank.
A few weeks ago Frank bought a packaged Chicago Hardy fig tree at a big home improvement store. He thought it looked dead but planted it in a flower pot anyway. After about three weeks, he took the dead fig twig back to the store and got store credit to buy another one. He saw two more dead ones on the shelf before finding one that had a tiny green leaf. He also noticed they were selling live Brown Turkey fig trees for $16. Kathryn thinks he should start selling fig cuttings.
Frank offered to give a Brown Turkey fig cutting to a church friend he saw in the parking lot. He also offered one to his neighbor, who said he wanted one but didn’t know how to plant it. Frank dug a hole and planted a rooted Brown Turkey cutting in his neighbor’s side yard. He had also previously buried some extra unrooted cuttings in the neighbor’s backyard in case any take root and survive.

Frank & Friends Show 0046
Tuesday May 03, 2022
Tuesday May 03, 2022
Frank’s friend Sarah Roberto is filling in for Kathryn Frady. Sarah says that everyone knows Jody Collins, the artist who designed the Frank & Friends Show logo. Frank finally met Jody in person on April 8 at the Friends of Literary fundraiser.
Sarah notices Frank’s freeze-dried tortoise Mo. Frank recaps the sad story of Mo’s demise and trip to the taxidermist. Frank had to get accustomed to Mo’s fake eyeballs. Sarah thinks Mo should have a TikTok account.
Frank needs to find a First Communion gift for his grandson Artie Rocket. Sarah can’t remember her First Communion gifts. Frank thinks all of the suggested gifts in the catalog look like the brick-a-brack that an old person would have.
Frank wants to give Artie a book about beheaded martyrs, which Sarah thinks is a terrible idea. Artie once had a school assignment to cut out a scarecrow and color it. Artie cut off its head and glued the head to the scarecrow’s hand to make it look more like the Headless Horseman.
Sarah was afraid of the animatronic Chuck E. Cheese characters when she was a kid. Frank’s friend Amanda Marr took her son to Kentucky to see a restored display of the Showbiz Pizza animatronic characters.
Sarah asks what Frank’s grandchildren call him. He says “grandpa” which Sarah thinks is old-fashioned. She says kids need to call their grandparents by a name they can pronounce. Frank says his grandsons have excellent diction because they like to command Alexa to play their favorite songs.
Last summer, Frank made a Spotify playlist for Artie. Sarah loved making mix CDs of downloaded songs. She would also record songs off the radio. Frank used to record TV themes by holding a microphone to the TV speaker. Sarah wants to get back the mix CD she made for her first husband.
Frank was invited to a men’s poker night at the home of a well-to-do doctor. Frank doesn’t know how to play poker and the host offered to provide an instruction flashcard. Frank enjoyed the party and the conversation with the other men but was relieved to lose all his chips.
Frank used to know a few card tricks from the magic kit he had as a child. Sarah is okay with magicians but is afraid of clowns. Frank enjoyed watching clowns at the circus.
Sarah says some people are afraid of costumed mascots. Frank’s grandsons went to a kid’s birthday party where some costumed characters were hired to appear. Charlie Rocket said he hated the “big head” people. Charlie avoided them until it was time for the birthday girl to blow out the candles.

Frank’s friend Sarah Roberto is filling in for Kathryn Frady. Sarah used to be the Director of Marketing for the Tennessee Valley Fair. Sarah mentioned that one of her former co-workers lives on Frank’s street.
Sarah is “team no pool.” Frank is shocked but admits that swimming pools are money pits. If you’re not putting water and chemicals into it, you’re pulling debris and critters out of it.
Sarah’s husband is a lawyer and politician. Her father-in-law is one of the scientists who discovered the element Tennessine (Symbol: Ts Atomic number: 117). Frank was excited to meet Dr. Roberto at a Super Bowl party.
Frank is mentioned in chapter 8 of the new Missy Barrett book, The Case of the Thoughtful Thief by Elyse Bruce. He will read the chapter aloud on Thursday, April 28 at 3pm in the King Family Library, 408 High Street, Sevierville, TN.
Sarah offers to “Mapquest directions” to the King Family Library. She then realizes that no one says Mapquest anymore. Frank prefers Google Maps.
Frank mentions Amazon Alexa. Sarah responds that she bought a new car with an audio assistant. Frank asks if you say Siri or Alexa. Sarah says “Mercedes, turn on my heated seats.”
Sarah has a TikTok account for her dog Baby Bear. The dog is a “CavaPoo,” which is a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel mixed with a poodle.
Frank remembers when Sarah had low-paying jobs for non-profit organizations and she used him as a reference for a new job. Since then, she’s earned her MBA and gotten a better-paying job in the tech field.
Frank was walking along Union Avenue on his way to Scruffy City Hall to perform with Einstein Simplified. He accidentally inhaled some saliva and had to cough it out. Some people half a block away turned and gave Frank a nasty look because he had coughed.
If Frank is near someone at church who coughs, he often gives them one of his Luden’s Throat Drops. Sarah thinks that Luden’ should become a sponsor of the Frank & Friends Show.

Tuesday Apr 26, 2022
Frank’s friend Tala Shatara is filling in for Kathryn Frady. Tala is the host of “Living East Tennessee” on WATE-TV and the author of the book Finding Plan B. Frank will be on “Living East Tennessee” on Friday.
Frank was in the FBI Citizens Academy with Tala’s father. He once asked if he could bring Tala for a tour of Frank’s radio studio. Tala wonders if her parents were too pushy. Frank points out that broadcasters love it when young people are interested in their careers.
Frank has three of his fig cuttings on display in the background. One is Brown Turkey, one is Celeste, but he doesn’t know the third variety. Frank got mad at a squirrel that was digging in one of the fig pots. Some critter took a bite out of a fig leaf.
Frank and his wife Jere watched some Biblical shows for Easter. Someone posted a link to every time Anne Baxter says “Moses” in The Ten Commandments. They were watching Jesus of Nazareth on The Roku Channel and saw a commercial for a bikini trimming tool.
Tala hits the “skip ads” button on YouTube videos. Frank looked into buying a YouTube ad. He would only be charged when a viewer watches more than half of the ad.
Tala notices digital ads for products she’s been thinking about. Frank wonders if both the human and the AI are picking up on the same clues to think about a product.
Tala says Instagram speaks her love language. She watches pranks on TikTok but hasn’t made a TikTok video. Frank got caught up watching reels of products being manufactured, such as wire hangers, which reminded him of the movie Mommie Dearest.
Frank ate his “emergency Peeps” that had a use-by date in 2017. They were a little stale but otherwise edible. He had been saving them to toast over a fire.

Thursday Apr 21, 2022
Thursday Apr 21, 2022
Frank’s friend Becca James is filling in for Kathryn Frady, who is directing and covering a production of Tosca at Gulfshore Opera.
Becca asks Frank if he buys clothes online. He mostly uses Kohl’s cash. Becca used to shop at New York & Company but they closed their stores. She buys clothes online but often has to return an item that doesn’t fit.
Becca went to see Elton John in concert and loved it. She bought the tickets in 2019. Frank’s neighbor bought resale tickets for Elton John but never received them. Frank likes that Elton added just enough concerts to finish his career with 2,000 shows in North America.
Becca will be working this weekend at the Dogwood Arts Festival in her job with Knoxville Area Transit. KAT will have a photo booth and information on electric buses. Frank remembers when the Dogwood Arts parade had an Underdog balloon. The following weekend, Kathryn Frady will drive back to Knoxville to perform at the Rossini Festival at 4:00 p.m. on April 30.
Frank has a photo shoot this weekend. He will act in a movie for the Knoxville Film Festival TN10 Best of the Best Filmmaking Challenge, a competition in which filmmakers have 90-days to create a short film. The photos will be used as props when the movie is filmed next month.
Frank was driving along Middlebrook Pike and listening to 104.9 Lake FM. Frank heard rap music bleeding over the signal. The explicit rap music became crystal clear on Frank’s car radio. He called the station owner, who is a broadcast engineer. The boss thinks that Frank must have picked up another driver’s FM transmitter being used to play mp3s from a phone or iPod.
Frank recalls a staff meeting on the day before his one-year anniversary. He got worried because the next day’s music log hadn’t been loaded. Nobody got fired. In fact, the company bought another AM station and FM translator.
Frank attended the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. Everyone is given a candle for the first part of the service. Frank noticed a commotion four pews in front of him. A teenager held his candle too close to his hair and the hair caught fire. Two adults used their hands to quickly put out the fire. The boy didn’t seem injured and stayed for the whole ceremony.

Tuesday Apr 19, 2022
Frank’s friend Kira Cupp is filling in for Kathryn Frady. Frank says Easter Tuesday is still part of the octave of Easter. He has Marshmallow Peeps that he wants to toast over a fire.
Kira jokes that Frank should plant the Peeps to grow more. Last week Frank joked that another deejay named J.J. Jeffries planted jelly beans hoping to grow a candy garden. He also joked that J.J. tried to import chocolates for Valentine’s Day but was now trying to re-mold them as chocolate Easter eggs. Frank based the joke on an old Bob & Ray routine called “Chocolate Wobblies.”
Kira is in a Facebook group called the “Aldi Aisle of Shame.” That’s where they sell household items and other limited-time products. Frank watches The Deal Guy’s videos about what to buy at Aldi each month.
Frank went to Aldi to get bottled water, which meant he would need a shopping cart. He had never rented an Aldi cart before and had to watch someone else do it first.
Frank felt like he was wandering around while everyone else in the store knew exactly where everything was. He was looking for coffee, water and lamb meat. The cashier complimented his choice of lamb.
Kira has been doing some modeling. The website for Kira’s videography and photography business is https://www.nothingrhymeswithorange.net/
Kira posted a video on TikTok modeling a new bathing suit that covers her belly button. However, it created a new problem by accentuating her rear. She got several direct messages from guys commenting on the video.
Last week Kira mentioned that she is vegan and that she bought a fig tree. Frank heard from someone who asked about fig wasps that die inside a fig while fertilizing it. The plant digests the dead figs, causing some people to say that figs are not vegan food. Frank says that the variety of fig plants that he has and that Kira bought are analogous to seedless grapes and don’t attract fig wasps.
