038 - Superhero Eulogy
Wednesday Nov 11, 2020
Wednesday Nov 11, 2020
Krisha & Frank went to the funeral for Bill Slayden, a founding member of Einstein Simplified. Krisha had planned on paying her respects at the visitation and leaving before the service. Frank and his wife planned on staying for the whole thing. There were seven comedy improvisers in attendance and they all sat together and joked about having enough people to put on a show. Their friend Dave said that Frank “has no chill.”
Krisha started getting emotional during the eulogies. Frank said he had a great time. Dave said the people behind the comedians moved to other seats. Frank points out that Dave’s time on the phone with Krisha & Frank is the most he has heard of the podcast.
Krisha felt sorry for Frank’s wife because she had to put up with the joking by all the improvisers who hadn’t seen each other since March. Krisha says their joke level was turned up to 11 and that they were using comedy to numb their emotions.
Krisha went home from the funeral, cooked comfort food, and binge-watched The Queen’s Gambit. Frank got an email from his mom’s church congratulating him on how well he organized her funeral. Krisha would be willing to work at a funeral home. Frank imagines a “Brook & Murphy” funeral business.

035 - Poplar Mechanics
Friday Nov 06, 2020
Friday Nov 06, 2020
Krisha & Frank are on the deck near the Podcast Porch to get a better view of the area where Steve’s Tree Service removed several problem pines and dead poplars. Frank is impressed that Krisha gets his “Down goes Frazier” reference.
Steve and his wife Renee regularly watch Krisha & Frank on YouTube and noticed a dead tree covered in vines, which they suggested removing. While they were working on some other trees, one of Frank’s elderly neighbors walked through the woods to get a better look.
Frank hurt his back trying to cut some weeds and move some brush while the tree crew had taken a load to the dump. Frank’s neighbors showed up to complain about the brush pile near the property line. Frank paid Steve and his crew to clear it out.

Tuesday Nov 03, 2020
Krisha & Frank visit Sharp’s Ridge Veterans Memorial Park, which has a great view of downtown Knoxville. Krisha tells Frank about her first radio job at a station on Sharp’s Ridge. The last time Frank went to the Park, it cost him a $1,000 repair bill. Frank tells Krisha how he was warned to avoid the “pickle park” when he first moved to Knoxville. When Frank worked on the Ridge, he would see wild turkeys outside the studio window.
Krisha looked up the words added to the dictionary in the years she and Frank were born. Frank tries to guess what song was number one when Krisha was born. The top songs of that year remind Frank of listening to Sandy Weaver on Q107 in Washington, D.C.
Krisha took a radio class in the Andrew Johnson Building, which was once the hotel where Hank Williams, Sr. spent his final night. Several artists performed their last show in Knoxville, including George Jones, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Randy Rhoads.
